Bach's numerology
Using the Latin alphabet, A=1, B=2, etc.
Since there is no J in this alphabet, J is represented by I, which equals 9. K=10, etc.
Thus BACH = 2 + 1 + 3 + 8 = 14
and J.S. BACH = 9 + 18 + 2 + 1 + 3 + 8 = 41
The notation B-A-C-H shows Bach's musical signature.
The pitches are B-flat (in German notation, "B"), A, C, and B-natural (in German notation, "H").
Bach was fond of numerology, and he often incorporated numerological elements into his compositions.

Dr. Sevrin's teachings One (not Herbert)
In the Star Trek episode "The Way to Eden," Dr. Sevrin is a brilliant (if somewhat insane) leader of a new philosophical sect. The philosophy of this group can be summed up in the statement, "One is the beginning."
"If you understand One, you know our purpose."
