[OSZ] Purpose (Meditation and Service)

Z athras warn, this site may contain spoilers though the episode most recently broadcast in the United States.

Meditation

The Sisters of Zathras spend much time in contemplation, pondering the mysteries of the telling of the next Great Story. They consult the sacred texts and other inspirational material, such as episodes of Babylon 5, other canonical and quasi-canonical sources, such as books and comics, and commentary upon the canon. They participate in study and discussion, and as an act of service communicate their learning to others.

For further information upon our contemplation practices, see the meditative rites in our liturgy section, and what has been set forth in the Rule of Draal. For information about the canon and other sources which are useful for edification, see Other Sources of Inspiration.

Service

As Zathras is a Caretaker of the Great Machine, we also contribute in our own way to promoting the work of the Great Machine. Since most of us live in communities away from Epsilon III, our home, we share in this ministry in various ways. For instance, Sister Zathra norak maintains this website as a contribution in the spirit of the Caretakers.

As mentioned above, the Sisters communicate our learning with others as an act of service. We have received insights from studying the Wisdom of Zathras and the great story of Babylon 5. We humbly offer our insights to promote the welfare of others by posting deep, profound comments on the Internet, such as to newsgroups, and on this website.

(Unfortunately, our insights might often be mistaken by unenlightened laypersons as humorous or nonsensical statements. Such is the fate of Zathras and those who follow in the way of Zathras. In particular, we have endured persecution at the hands (bats?) of a certain squad of Narns. But we persist, believing that the teachings we transmit to others are worth the suffering. Indeed, it may be that the Universe has provided the wacky, WHAMsical Narn Bat Squad to keep us humble and to better enable us to serve the greater good.)
