Public Radio Addiction
You know you're a Public Radio Addict when...
- ...your car breaks down and you're excited because now you have a reason to call Click & Clack
- ...a co-worker says they need to get some fresh air, and you reply that you like to listen to Terry Gross, too
- ...you find yourself saying things like, "That sounds like a good plan, but all things considered, which comes on at 4..."
- ...you consistently double the last letter in a certain word, and you
don't understand WHYY your spell checker complains
- ...your overhear your office manager ordering reams of paper, and you expect to get reports by Diane Rehm
- ...you naturally assume anyone named Ira has hosted "Talk of the Nation" at least once
- ...your record collection equals the Performance Today Basic Record Library
- ...you travel to Boston, and the only pictures you show your friends when you return are of the door to the "Car Talk" offices and the "Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe" window
- ...you've actually tried to hire Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe
- ...you travel to D.C., and you're more excited about seeing NPR headquarters than seeing the White House or the Capitol building
- ...you meet a Supreme Court Justice, and greatly awed, you ask, "Wow, do you know Nina Totenberg?"
- ...you suggest that your local station offer tote bags as a premium, and call them "Nina Totenbags"
They've finally done it...see the Nina
Totin' Bag!!!
- ...you wander around the house repeating Sylvia Paggioli's name
- ...whenever you see a KFC ad with the Colonel, you think of Bob Edwards, because he's an honorary Kentucky Colonel
- ...someone starts to say something about the company TRW, and you think of T. R. Reid
(because he often chats with Bob on Morning Edition)
- ...you don't need a watch, you tell time by what program is on
- ...you list the days of the week as: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, the day we read from your letters, Science Friday, Weekend
Edition Saturday, Weekend Edition Sunday
- ...you actually ENJOY pledge breaks
- ...you notice that these symptoms are mostly NPR specific, but you know
that's just the tip of the iceburg (or Totenburg, as it happens (of
course, you recognize "As It Happens" is on CBC and distributed by PRI))
- ...you actually know the difference between NPR and PRI
- ...you know the difference between the Puzzler and the Sunday Puzzle
- ...someone asks you what attire is appropriate for a casual party by
saying, "will shorts be okay?" and you respond, "Yeah, the Puzzlemaster
be cool."
